Don Pedro Lake & Reservoir Don Pedro Lake & Reservoir is a huge a man made lake nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills offering 160 miles of shoreline with nearly 13,000 surface acres of water providing recreational opportunities . Don Pedro lake became a popular destination for vacation attracting over 400,000 visitors a year looking for water sport , house boating rental, fishing , swimming, water-skiing, jet-skiing, windsurfing and sailing . Don Pedro lake offers two marinas and sandy beaches ( Moccasin Point Marina and Lake Don Pedro Marina, both owned by Forever Resorts) .

Don Pedro first Dam was initiated back in 1920 and upgraded by 580 feet in height ,in 1971 to meet the increased agricultural and population demand. Don Pedro Lake Reservoir retains and store water that derives from rain and milted snow that drains down streams into Don Pedro lake via the Tuolumne River. Don Pedro Dam can store up to 570,000 acre feet water in the reservoir. However, the capacity of Don Pedro reservoir may increase within the next 25 years in order to take over Hetch Hetchy reservoir as voices rise asking for the removal of the Dam and therefore restoring the Hetch Hetchy valley.

Moccasin is famous for being home to Powerhouse that initiated 1921 & completed in 1969.It’s owned by San Francisco. Moccasin is located on the eastern edge of Lake Don Pedro at the intersection of Highway 49 and 120. Moccasin Powerhouse based on tow generators is strategically located along the Hetch Hetchy pipeline system that flows from the upper part of the mountain as you see it a head of us now . in tunnels athat travel for about 155 miles ,all the way to San Francisco city and county . During the Gold Rush, there were mining camp along Moccasin Creek and along Priest Grade which used by stage coaches on the way to Big Oak Flat and Grove land.Let’s start now our exciting ride uphill on Priest Grade for 6 miles along the windy, curvy and spectacular roads overlooking the edge of the steep valley . We will gain about 1540 feet elevation in 20 minutes. Keep your Camera ready to Capture the scenic views and the seep valley where Lake Don Pedro Lies as we will see it on the way back.

Chinese Camp which is a Historical Landmark today, is located in the Gold County at the foothills of sierra Nevada , in the western side of the Tuolumne County .The Chinese Camp served as a mining town and an urban metropolis district during California Gold Rush . It was home to over 5,000 Chinese immigrants laborers who arrived in California in 1849 , at the same time as the gold seekers called “forty inners” Some of these Chinese immigrants build the railroads while others work in the gold mines. Today, less than 200 residents live in the Chinese Camp witness its colorful past. No body can denies the credit giving to the Chinese immigrants because developed agriculture, Constructed road & railroads & worked hard in the gold mines during the gold rush .The also built many flumes and roads in the mining districts such the 1850s, Big Gap Flume constructed to cross Conrad Gulch and carry water in a gravity flow system. Which was part of a 36-mile ditch supplying water for Gold miner’s .That was actually one of The ancient building techniques brought from China While rammed earth is associated with Spanish and Mexican cultures. Despite the discrimination they were subject to by local law & gold seekers Most Chinese immigrants developed a Chinese American community and made an effort to join the city’s political and cultural life in the course of time but Chinese Americans also preserved their own cultural traditions. California best gold was finally the emigrants who came from all over the world brining own rich cultural, agricultural which made California in a short time after the decline of gold, the fastest growing state in term of business, industry and agriculture.
